Acupuncture is a healing treatment that has been used on the human body for over 2000 years. Originally from China, this exotic treatment was given FDA clearance in the United States in 1996, classifying acupuncture needles as medical devices. In the following years more and more doctors began recommending acupuncture to their patients for healing of pain.
With the use of techniques involving needles, heat and pressure applied to specific areas on the body, acupuncture may help ease pain associated with conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, migraine, back pain, neck pain, fibromyalgia, nerve pain, etc.
A major concept to support acupuncture is that our bodies are capable of self-healing. At the Medical Art Center, Acupuncturist, Ted Block, explains how imbalance in the human body can cause pain. “An acupuncturist will try to figure out what is out of balance and to come up with a proper plan to help balance to be restored so that the body can take care of itself.”
